Existing Challenges

Millions across rural and underserved urban India remain excluded from essential services, opportunities, and systems required for inclusive, sustainable, and future-ready development.

Education Gap

Education Gap

Over 250 million students are enrolled in schools, yet learning outcomes remain low - only ~50% of Grade 5 students can read a Grade 2 text. Quality education remains inaccessible for millions in rural India.

Healthcare & Rehabilitation Access

Healthcare & Rehabilitation Access

Nearly 65-70% of India's population lives in rural areas, but access to quality healthcare is inadequate. India has one government doctor for over 10,000 people, leaving millions without care.

Unemployment & Skill Deficit

Unemployment & Skill Deficit

India has one of the world's largest youth populations, yet over 50% of youth are not job-ready due to lack of skills. Rural economies lack structured systems for employment generation and skill development.

Women & Child Development

Women & Child Development

Female labor force participation remains low at ~25%, and many women lack access to healthcare, safety training, and economic opportunities. Child welfare and safety remain pressing concerns.

Marginalized Populations

Marginalized Populations

Over 2.68 crore persons with disabilities, along with elderly populations, prisoners, and border communities, face systemic exclusion from education, livelihood, and social integration opportunities.

Sports, Youth & Talent Development Gap

Sports, Youth & Talent Development Gap

India has immense untapped potential in sports and Paralympic talent, especially in rural areas, but lacks structured systems for talent identification, training, and infrastructure development.

Environmental & Climate Challenges

Environmental & Climate Challenges

India is among the most climate-vulnerable countries. Nearly 600 million people face high to extreme water stress (NITI Aayog), while deforestation and lack of environmental awareness threaten long-term sustainability.

Weak Community Institutions

Weak Community Institutions

Grassroots organizations like youth clubs, women's groups, and community collectives are often underdeveloped, limiting local leadership and community-driven development at the grassroots level.

Innovation & Research Deficit

Innovation & Research Deficit

Limited access to research, exploration, and emerging technologies (AI, climate science, space, etc.) in grassroots ecosystems restricts future-ready development and global competitiveness for India.

Latest Projects

This initiative by Prerana Foundation is part of Coastal Community Upliftment Project aimed at engaging, supporting, and highlighting livelihoods along India's shoreline. From the fishermen of Pentakatha in Odisha to the expert Mukkaiyur net makers, the weavers of Kasargod, and of Chirala–Bapatla, flower sellers of Pondicherry to the textile artisans of Mandwa — the project focuses on understanding grassroots challenges and enabling visibility for traditional coastal economies.

Featured here is one such interaction with a fisherman from Marve, Mumbai — a small but meaningful glimpse into the larger community upliftment effort, where voices from the coast are acknowledged, documented, and encouraged towards greater visibility and support.
